DIY Gallery Wall

Whatever Wednesday

As the end of the school year and nearing and I’m preparing to move, I’ve been trying to come up with ways to make my room my own and basically personalize it. Through the inspiration of other bloggers and youtubers, I thought a gallery wall above my bed in my room would be a great way to personalize it and add a little bit of decor to my room at the same time! All together this little project only cost me about $10 and took me about 45 minutes to an hour to complete. However, the price really depends on where you choose to buy your frames and the photos you put inside! Here is a step to step guide on how to create your own gallery wall!

What You’ll Need for this Project:
– Photos
– Printer (Optional)
– Wall Hanging Frames
– Nails
– Hammer
– Paper
– Scissors
– Pencil
– Tape

Step 1: Buy your Frames
The first thing you want to do is buy frames of all different shapes and sizes. Personally, my dad already has some old frames lying around and then to finish off the wall I visited the dollar store and bought a couple there too. The frames from the dollar store are not only super cheap in price but they also aren’t horrible quality and will do for this project. For my gallery wall, I used 10 different frames of all different shapes and sizes.

Step 2: Print Off your Pictures/Find your Pictures
The second thing you’ll want to do is print off your pictures or find your pictures that you want to use for your gallery wall. Only one of my pictures was actually a real photo, the other photos I found on tumblr and the urban outfitters website. You can also flip through magazines to look for pictures to use too! But it’s all up to you!

Tip: Make sure when you print off the pictures, you change the size of them to fit the frame you want them to go in

Step 3: Trace your Frames
The next thing you want to do is trace your frames onto blank pieces of paper and cut them out so that each piece of paper is the size of the frame. The reason you want to do this is so you can create and move around your gallery wall on your wall before actually putting nails in. Make sure to label each of the cut of traced frames with the picture that is inside so you know which piece of paper is which frame.

Step 4: Lay out the Gallery Wall on your Floor
The next thing you do is take your frames with the pictures inside and lay them out on the ground how you want your gallery wall to look. This way you can see which frames look good beside each other, which pictures look good beside each other and how you want the spacing and layout to be.

Step 5: Put your Traced Frames on the Wall
Next, take the pieces of paper that you traced your frames on and place them on the wall with tape how your frames are placed on the ground. After this, you can move around the pieces of paper to get your perfect gallery wall shape.

Step 6: X’s for the Nails
Next, draw an X on each piece of paper where you want the nail to go in. After that, your nails are good to be put in through the piece of paper and into the wall.

Step 7: Hang your Frames
After putting all the nails in, one by one, take the piece of paper down and replace it with the frame and picture that you wanted to go there. Continue to do this until all the paper is down and all the frames are up.

Step 8: Straighten Frames and Make sure they are Secure
Lastly, after all the frames are up, quickly make sure every frame is straight and also check that each frame is secure on the wall so it doesn’t fall down. Since the frames I bought weren’t the greatest quality, I had to put tape on the bottom of some of the frames to make sure they were more secure to the wall.

After these steps, you should have your very own gallery wall!

I hope all these steps help you to create your own gallery wall and get your creativity flowing! Let me know in the comments below if you did anything different to create your gallery wall, if you were thinking of creating your own and any other comments you have about this post! Have an awesome weekend!
