Hello Beautiful People!
Another one for the Q&A Series – the other day I had the chance to interview Victor Stonem who is a photographer and blogger from The Dominican Republic. I discovered Victor’s blog a while ago and as soon as I started this Q&A Series, I knew he was someone I wanted to answer a few questions for it. It’s still so crazy how i’ve had the opportunity to ask so many people from so many different places in the world questions for this little series. So, if you like photography, fashion, inspiration and lifestyle blogs, Victor’s Blog, Idle Vibes, is the blog for you to check out right now! Links to Victor’s other social media sites will be at the bottom of this post, enjoy!
Can you introduce yourself, tell us where you’re based from and what the name of your blog is?
My name is Victor and I’m a 19 years old blogger, photographer and illustrator from the Dominican Republic. My blog is called Idle Vibes and it’s about inspiration, fashion, photography and lifestyle.
How would you describe your blog?
It began as a place to share my photos back when I was 14. At that time it was called Digitalog. Then, I started feeling uninspired so I stopped. Then when I was 16 (2011) I decided to start blogging again. I put photos of my inspiration, my personal photos and writing and then, inspired by Garance (http://www.garancedore.com/), the illustrations came along. Now, there’s a little bit of everything there; street style, outfits, lifestyle posts… Tiny pieces of everything.
Were you always interested in photography and fashion?
My interest in photography started when I was 11, but back then I only had a point and shoot camera. So there was really nothing to see. Later when I was 13, I started to read some fashion photography blogs like Nirrimi’s (http://theroadishome.com/) and Scott’s (http://www.thesartorialist.com/) that’s when my interest for photography merged with fashion. I loved everything about it, the editorials, the models, I was amazed by that world.
What is it about photography that appeals to you?
The thing I love the most about photography is the way it tells us something about the time that passed and the time we’re living in. You’re able to capture a fleeting moment, an expression, for me there’s something very nostalgic about it. I love the way we can create an idea and then develop it through photography. It’s beautiful.
Can you name your top 5 favourite stores to shop at for clothing?
Asos, Mr Porter, Zara, Topman and H&M.
When it comes to photography, what is the inspiration behind each and every photo you take?
Ahhhh, my inspirations are so many haha! Films, art, architecture, nature, books…
Any fashion role models you look up to?
Paul Newman, Pascal Grob & Simone Marchetti
Any photography role models you look up to?
Nirrimi, Scott Schuman, Bryant Eslava, Alice Gao, Paolo Roversi, Peter Lindbergh… The list is endless!
What is one fashion do and one fashion don’t in your books?
DO: create your own uniform, one that you feel comfortable in, and that looks good, not boring. DON’T: add more than 3 colors to your outfit’s palette.
Do you have any advice for people wanting to start a blog?
Be consistent and always stay true to your voice, people will relate to what you’re posting, they’ll love it and will come back for more!
I’d like to thank Victor again for taking the time to answer some of my questions! Make sure to check out his blog and the rest of his social media sites (links down below).
