The other week my mom gave me her Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer to test out because she wasn’t sure whether she really liked it or not. So, this past week and a bit i’ve used the primer as a base for my makeup everyday and I put it to the test, I even wore it to work to see if it actually helped my makeup stay all day!
Smashbox claims that this primer is used to “prep skin to create a perfect canvas for flawless foundation application”. At first when I put the product on by itself, I found my skin felt really oily or greasy, even though the product itself is oil free. However, once it sunk into my skin and I put my bb cream on, the oily feeling instantly disappeared. This primer made it REALLY easy for my BB cream to go on smoothly and evenly compared to other primers i’ve used before. I found that it’s claim to make your skin look “flawless” was also pretty true; my skin of course isn’t “flawless” but this primer more or less made my skin look better than ever before.
Something my mom and I were both concerned with when it came to using this primer is that it would break us out. My skin doesn’t usually agree with these silicon based products (which is the reason that the baby skin primer didn’t work out for me when I tried to use it). However, after a bit of time using this primer, I found that my skin didn’t develop any blemishes and my pores didn’t feel “clogged” whatsoever throughout the day. Because breaking out was something I was initially concerned with, I was pretty impressed with this product after the week and a bit because it gave me that “photo finish look” and didn’t clog my pores which is basically everything everyone looks for in a primer.
The last thing I wanted to test with this primer besides how good of a base it was for bb cream or foundation and if it clogged my pores or not was to see if it helped my makeup last all day. Even when I put it on early in the morning and was at work for hours, when I got home my makeup was exactly how it was when I left. Typically, my makeup will come off halfway through the day and by the end of the day it doesn’t even look like I put any makeup on at all, so overall this product passed all the tests!
Verdict: I would HIGHLY recommend this product for anyone who has been looking for a new primer that meets all their needs. It is definitely worth picking up and trying even if you don’t think it’ll work out for you, because I was really skeptical of using this silicon based product in the first place too, but it ended up working out great for me!
(ps. sorry for stealing this primer from you mom…love you but I think it was meant to be!)
That is all for this short little review! I have another review coming soon on the Neutrogena Healthy Skin CC Cream, which was another product my mom wanted me to try out. So look out for that review/first impressions soon! Also, if you didn’t see my last few posts yesterday, I did a Q&A with fashion and style blogger Laura, from the blog, Tiny Twisst, and I also did a post on my Everyday Essentials: What’s in my purse edition, so check those out!
