Spring break/Summer break has arrived or is fast approaching for us in University and for those in high school as well. I love summer and it’s definitely a time where I don’t pay as much attention to social media (probably just my blog and Instagram because they’re my favourite forms of social media…) and I try to get outside and do stuff that is fun and relaxing at the same time! At the beginning of the summer or I guess spring right now, I like to make a list of things I want to do at least once during the summer, and even if I don’t end up doing all of them, I still enjoy making the lists so I become more productive and when I want to do something but I can’t think of anything I just turn to the list I made! So today I thought I would share my list with all of you!
Here’s a short list of 10 things I think everyone should do at least once this summer (If you want to of course!):
1. Go to the Beach
Going to the beach is obviously an extremely common activity in the summer. However, where I live there are definitely not a lot of beaches around me so even though I say I want to go, I never really plan a trip to any of the beaches that are actually around me. Going to the beach in the summer is the best because there are so many things to do there! Swimming, tanning, relaxing, playing sports, etc etc.. I don’t really need to explain more. It’s just a great way to take in the summer weather and relax too!
2. Go Swimming (in a lake, ocean or swimming pool!)
I’m not sure about anyone else, but swimming is one of my favourite things to do in the summer. I wish swimming in the lake was available to me all year round, but unfortunately it’s not! Relaxing in the pool or swimming, tubing, water skiing, etc in the lake or the ocean makes for some of the best days ever in the summer and I would suggest it to anyone who isn’t sure what to do with their day but wants it to be fun or relaxing, or a mix of both!
3. Go to a Concert or a Music Festival
Perhaps this should have been my #1 thing to do on my list because I’m pretty sure everyone loves music, and going to a festival just tops a summer off. Last year I had the chance of going to Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal and it was probably one of the greatest summer experiences of my life. It was my first time going to a real festival and I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. So if you can get your hands on some tickets to a music festival or an outdoor concert, I would!
4. Have Coffee/Drinks with an Old Friend/New Friend, or just a Friend!
Going for coffee or a drink to a place that has an outdoor patio with an old friend is an awesome relaxing thing to do. But the outdoor patio definitely makes grabbing a coffee or a drink the best! The other day my friend Anne and I met up and we hadn’t seen each other for the longest time. We decided to go get coffee at a really cool coffee shop that had a roof top patio! Because it was such a nice day outside we spent a really long time just catching up and enjoying the sun! And I’m sure it won’t be the only time I do this in the summer, and I think everyone should at least once!
5. Have or go to a Bonfire
I guess because I used to go camping every summer with girl guides (many many many years ago haha) it seems kind of like bonfires symbolize summer. Going to a bonfire gives you time to hangout with friends/or a friend and just talk or do whatever your heart desires! I’m not really sure i’ve met anyone who didn’t enjoy a good old summer bonfire! So if you can’t think of anything to do with friends one night, maybe get together for a bonfire somewhere!
6. Go Hiking
No matter where you live, I’m sure there’s a great place to go for hikes or walks! It’s a great activity to do by yourself or with someone in the summer to experience nature and the outdoors. Hiking is definitely one of mine and my friends favourite things to do (someones it’s difficult to scout out trails where I live, but we still end up going!).
7. Go Camping
Going along with the whole, taking in the summer weather and nature, I think going camping is another awesome thing to do in the summer! Summer nights are obviously the best time for camping…and bonfires! It’s also not very expensive to rent some space in a camp ground for a night, wherever it may be. So it’s a great way to get away without actually spending a lot of money if you don’t want to or you don’t have the money/time to travel far 🙂
8. Go to an Amusement Park
If you love rides, you’re never to old to go to the amusement park. I try to go at least once each summer with a friend or multiple friends because I LOVE rides. Whether you get seasons passes or just a one day pass, I think amusement parks are an awesome investment and going to them gives you someone to do for a whole day and night with your friends!
9. Host an Outdoor Dinner Party/or just a Party
It may be true that I’ve been reading too much Kinfolk and really want to have all my friends over for a dinner party on my patio (which is completely non existent my the way). But…throwing any type of party or going to a party with all your friends is an awesome way to spend time together and celebrate the break that you all have from school or that day off from work!
10. Go on a day Trip/Actual Trip/Road trip!
Of course, not everyone can afford going on an actual trip or has the time to go on a trip. However, I think everyone should plan at least one day trip or road trip with their friends or family to somewhere they’ve never been or don’t go very often. It’ll give you a chance to get outdoors and explore somewhere you don’t go very often, which is always a good time! And, if you can find the time or money to go on an actual trip, it’s a great way to relax and spend your break too!
And one last thing…11. RELAX
Whether you do or don’t have the time to do all or any of these things on my list, or your own list, just make sure you relax. Although I am working full time this summer, I’m still going to try to find as much time as I can to relax because summer only lasts so long and then it’s back to school or more work for all of us! So no matter what, make sure to relax as much as you can!
I hope you all enjoyed this short list of things you should do this summer, all geared towards spending time outside and away from social media, even though you’re all reading this on my social media at this very moment…anyways, go outside! And I will too.
Have an amazing week everyone! Let me know in the comments if you end up doing any of these things or what your favourite things to do are in the summer!
