Q&A Series
Hello Beautiful People!

The other day I had the chance to ask one of my long-time favourite bloggers, Laura Bancroft (also a fellow Canadian). Laura’s blog, Piper Winston is full of beautiful photos, writing, recipes, fashion, and much more content that you’re all bound to love! So, if you’ve never had the chance to read Laura’s blog, I suggest you check it out as soon as possible because you’re missing out!

Can you introduce yourself, tell us where you’re based from and what the name of your blog is?
Hello! My name is Laura Bancroft. I’m a born and bred Pacific North Westerner from Vancouver, Canada and I document my thoughts and adventures on a little blog called Piper Winston. Nice to meet you via this crazy internet contraption. I’m equally flattered and humbled that you are taking the time to read my answers today.

It’s clear from your blog and photos on instagram as well that you love to travel! What would you say your favourite places were that you have travelled so far and why?
I kind of laugh when this question comes up with friends. You’re right, I do love to travel. But, in comparison to a lot of folks my passport lacks a lot of stamps. I’m a firm believer in a take-what-you-can-get / build-your-own-adventure approach. I love to dream of (and sometimes get to visit) exotic locations, but the bread + butter of the bulk of my travel really lies in road trips. The west coast of North America has so many completely unique destinations within hours of each other: Tofino, the Oregon Coast, Big Sur.. then you can travel in towards Joshua Tree, Zion, etc – all worth your time. I could also spend a lifetime in the wilds of Maui or on the Italian coast… I’ll stop there, as this answer could get really long.

Any future plans for travelling or places you’ve always dreamed of going?
I hope to visit some of my normal road trip haunts (mentioned in the previous answer) this Summer. Beyond that Iceland, Sweden, Japan, Greece and more of Italy are at the top of my bucket list. For me it’s always hard when i have time off  to choose between visiting places I know/love and venturing to new spots.

What would you say your favourite part about blogging is?
Sharing with others and creating community. Every single day people use their phones and computers to access information in one-direction on the computer. Blogging is a neat way to contribute back into it. I always wondered who the people behind the photos, recipes and information on the internet were. I’ve met so many creative, talented and fun people through my blogging. Taking part and giving something to a community is the only way you can expect to receive anything worthwhile in return. Blogging ensures even the most shy of people are able to contribute to a community’s conversation.

What inspires you in life and for your blog?
I guess it’s a want to have and share new experiences that inspires me. I am surrounded by super talented, creative friends all the time and seeing them work challenges me to think beyond my comfort zone. I want to see new places, meet new people, try new things and learn everyday. Those things fuel my creative side and create content to share.

I actually just tried your “Iced Coffee with an Exotic Twist” the other day and loved it! What would you say your favourite food/drink recipe on your blog is?
So glad you tried it and liked it! I’d have to say that the Chocolate Rosemary Cookies with Sea Salt are my favourite recipe. I really love combining unique flavours and the sweet and salty pairings always satisfy my tastebuds completely.

Blogging included, of course, what are your favourite hobbies and why do you enjoy them?
Learning new things is probably my favourite hobby, which can translate into a long list very fast. Music, the outdoors, swimming in the ocean, road trips, watercolour painting, photography, boating, home design/decor, architecture, cooking, camping ….. I could go on forever. I think it’s an epidemic of our generation to diversify as much as possible and I think that’s really wonderful.

What would you say your favourite (or your favourites) kind of blog post to write is and why?
This is a hard question to answer. I think sharing photos from my own experiences – trips, sometimes just simple good days – are my favourite. I think photos have the ability capture and share moments in a way that words don’t. I love getting to peek into other people’s lives through their eyes/lens, and it’s fun to be able to reciprocate. I hope people feel like they get a feeling for my life through my photos.

It’s also clear on your blog that you’re a music lover, much like myself! What bands are you currently loving? Right now I’m into Phantogram, Chvrches, Born Ruffians, Deerhoof (breakup songs), new Wye Oak, St.Vincent, Tokyo Police Club, We Are The City  and Miley Cyrus (shameful, yet true). My tastes are all over the place

When did you first get into photography and blogging and why?
I’ve always been fascinated by photos. I remember taking overflowing handfuls of rolls of film to be developed when I was young – before digital (now you know i’m old ;)). A few years ago my boyfriend bought me a bunch of vintage cameras for Christmas and that refuelled interest. The blogging was actually an extension of taking photos. I had tons of images and the blog was a place to share them in an unassuming, subtle way. People have the choice to look – they aren’t forced.

What is it about photography that you love the most?
As cheesy as it sounds, freezing a moment in a photo will always be incredible to me. I will always be interested in how differently individuals perceive a moment and how a photo can capture that.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start a blog?
Don’t take yourself too seriously.
Share what interests YOU – someone else out there will appreciate it the way you do.
Know that blogging is quite a bit more work than it would seem – it takes dedication and time.
Just do it and be who you are – the more true you are to yourself, the more cohesive your blog will be.

I’d like to thank Laura for taking the time to answer my questions with some seriously awesome answers! I hope you all go check out her blog ASAP because I guarantee you’ll instantly love it.
