Hello Beautiful People!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a blogger Q&A…the problem isn’t that I have no Q&A’s to post, the problem is that I’ve been off my blogging game. My goal for September and for the rest of the year is to try and post every other day, something I definitely haven’t been very good at for a while now.
Anyways, enough about me and my horrible blogging game. Today is an exciting day because I got to ask one of my favourite bloggers, Alyssa, from the blog Random Acts of Pastel a few questions. What’s even better is that I get to share her awesome answers with all of you! With a love for pastels and all things colourful and sparkly, Alyssa blogs about anything and everything which keeps readers interested and in love with everyone of her blog posts! I challenge you guys to try and find a more colourful and vibrant blog than Alyssa’s, trust me, you’ll love it!
Can you introduce yourself, tell us where you’re based from and the name of your blog?
Hi, I’m Alyssa Garrison! I’m originally from Vancouver, BC, but at the moment I’m based in Toronto, and my blog is randomactsofpastel.com!
How would you describe your blog?
My blog is sort of a big blended cocktail of all things pink, colourful, sparkly and fun. I believe in celebrating everyday, and always saying yes to cake for breakfast. I guess you could call RAOP a fun magical lifestyle blog?
We actually live in the same city! Haha what is your favourite thing about living in the city?
I have such a love/hate relationship with Toronto. On one hand I feel like people are so guarded here, and making connections can be tough, but at this point I’ve really built such an amazing community, and that’s my favourite thing about living here. Wherever I go I see people who I know- in stores, on the street, at the park, everywhere. It makes me feel really safe and loved to get hugs and smiles everywhere I turn!
Does living in Toronto influence the posts on your blog in any way, if so, how?
It absolutely does. I really like to feature Toronto makers and local talent, so that factors into everything from where I shoot and what I wear to what I eat and what events I feature. I actually have a section called “Local Love” that’s dedicated to my favourite spots in the city.
When did you first start loving all things pastel and introducing pastel fashions and beauty into your lifestyle?
I’ve always been a massive colour-lover, and hot pink has been my favourite from the start, but pastels really took over about five or six years ago. I’m the kind of person who lives in my own little world, and once I figured out that pastels really made me feel happy, I sort of immersed myself in that. Even my grad outfit was all pink, white and mint, and that was over six years ago! Hair wise I’ve been some shade of pastel rainbow for three years and counting (and probably will be until the day I die!)
What would you say your absolute favourite things about being a blogger are?
Tea and pajamas! I’m a total introvert at heart, so I love being cozy at home doing work that I love instead of out in the world every day. I also get some pretty incredible mail, which means every week there’s usually a day that feels like Christmas!
Any staple pieces of clothing in your wardrobe?
So many! As strange as it sounds I am a huge supporter of well-made white t-shirts and Acne jeans- whenever I’m not getting all dressed up, I’m in some form of that combination! I also think everyone needs a pair of sparkly shoes and a tulle skirt, because nothing makes you feel more like a princess than that pairing (seriously, I’ve had little girls stop me on the street!)
Your blog is a little bit of everything! Which I love. What kind of blog post is your favourite to write?
That’s a tough one! I really love the collaboration posts I do with Bicyclette, an adorable shop here in Toronto. I’m so used to working alone on everything, so it’s really nice to work on bigger projects with someone else! My Take me Out posts on their blog are always super fun to create too.
Did you ever expect to stick to blogging for so long? How do you stay motivated to post?
Honestly I feel like I could blog forever! I actually have so many ideas constantly lined up that it’s hard to find the time to do them all, and it’s been like that since day one. I think because I really only write about things that I truly love, blogging is easy for me, plus I have a background in journalism, so I’m trained to pump out content pretty fast.
Any advice for those wanting to start a blog?
Just start! Your blog doesn’t have to be perfect or super thought out… just create something genuine that makes you feel happy, and everything else will follow.
I’d like to thank Alyssa for taking the time to be a part of my little blog and to share some of her answers with all of you! I definitely recommend checking out Alyssa’s beautiful blog, as well as all her other social media including twitter, pinterest and instagram to read more about Alyssa and see what she has to say! I hope you all have a wonderful week!
